Subject: Eighth Grade Technology Proficiency Measures

Last spring, a number of you took advantage of an online technology survey tool
that was made accessible to you through the efforts and services of Prairie
Lakes AEA. For those who had students and teachers complete this survey, the
data was stored for retrieval via web access. Now as we look to data gathering
efforts this spring, we have once again made available access to the student and
teacher technology surveys. We would encourage all schools serving eighth grade
students to consider using these tools to either establish baseline data for
continuous, annual proficiency measures, or to demonstrate the growth from last
year's performance to now.

It is important to emphasize that currently the only requirements are to report
the assessment at grade eight, and that report is to be made to the Iowa
Department of Education through your Annual Progress Reports. While the federal
government will expect a measure of 100% proficiency by the year 2013, there
have not yet been set any intervening benchmarks of proficiency to be achieved
on an annual basis as there have been for other curricular areas.

To have students and teachers access and complete the survey, point your browser

As students and teachers complete this year's survey, please contact us for the
URLs that will give you access to the spreadsheet reports of results.

Also, PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT A SERVER UPGRADE WILL BE MADE ON MONDAY, MAY 7,
2007, AND THE SURVEY WILL NOT BE ACCESSIBLE ON THAT DATE.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for assistance in further developing your
technology standards, the integration of technology into the classroom, or your
plans for professional development for teacher technology proficiencies. We are
here to meet your needs.
