Hi,

Our state has just added a new license for "Technology Coordinators". This is an administrative license much like a curriculum director. It requires a teaching certificate, three years of classroom experience, and a masters degree. There are 17 competencies. You can see these and background on this at http://www.dpi.state.wi.us/dpi/dltcl/imt/tekcordlic.html

This summer I participated in a training program for folks who wish to become licensed. I could classify the group into three sub groups; the "technicians" and network managers, the classroom integraters (curriculum/staff dev focused) and just a few who could did both. This is going to be an interesting process for our state.

Frankly a lot of our current technology staff are not interested in the administrative aspects of this new license.Nor can most of our small rural schools afford such a position. This may be an opportunity for us to get the principals and superintendents to adopt the more administrative responsibilities and develop/increase their participation in technology leadership and management. I am going to work on some creative scenarios for partnerships with administrators etc. to make sure these components are embedded into the school leadership. I plan to have these done in December.

Here are a few resources I have collected:

Bailey, George " What Technology Leaders Need to Know," Leading and Learning with Technology. Sept 97

Johnson, D. and Bartleson, E. "Assessing Technology Skills for Educational Leaders" Leading and Learning with Technology. October 2001

(Available to members online)

The ISTE/NCATE Leadership Standards can be found at http://cnets.iste.org/ncate/

I have also used the DACUM Job descriptions on www.techsets.org

I would be interested in seeing what you collect. Or anybody elses ideas.

Andrea

I working on a  presentation about the “Changing Role of the Director of Technology” and would appreciate your input.  I looking for a couple things:

1) Your own experience as a Director of Technology or Technology Coordinator. Please include information about your school or district as a persons job description depends upon the size or type (public or private) of school

2) Documentation, including magazine articles that have been written about the topic.

I greatly appreciate everyone’s help!!

Thank You!!!
