Title: United Streaming training, November 20
The November Tech Coordinators Meeting will be in Fort Dodge at the Central Office Board Room in the AM.  I will be looking for a site to meet in the afternoon.

8:30am - Noon - United Streaming, See Below.  More Technical than afternoon session
1:30 - 3pm - E-Rate Update, TBA

I apologize for the lack of agenda, the United Streaming session was going to take the whole day, and now they are going to have 2 1/2 day classes.  I have a couple of things I am trying to line up and will send that info out when I have it.

My understanding is that in the AM session of United Streaming presentation they will discuss issues related to your network infrastructure, and troubleshooting as well.  Bring a laptop with you if available.

Greetings,

This is to give you a "heads-up" to the United Streaming training that will be held in Fort Dodge on Thursday, NOVEMBER 20th.  This training is the professional development "piece" of the Prairie Lakes pilot project on using digital streaming, and more precisely, using multimedia clips and motion media in the classroom. Please pass this information on to other staff members in your buildings; we are relying on you to appropriate disperse this information.  This training will address many Information Literacy standards and technology standards as they relate to an integrated curriculum.

Some of you may have already been contacted by Randy Freeman of United Streaming.  He is providing access details and can explain the process and technical needs to get you started on the "digital" path.

The training site will depend on the number of participants in the full day training.  If the number of attendees exceeds the space limitations of the Fort Dodge AEA Board Room, then the location will be moved to a larger facility in Fort Dodge.  (A similar training will be held on Wednesday, November 19th in Sioux City; you will have the opportunity to attend either site, based on your needs and preferences.) Additional information, including starting time, will be communicated as plans are finalized.  Lunch will be the participant's responsibility.

You MUST pre-register by Wednesday, NOVEMBER 12, to attend this meeting.  Pre-register by contacting Donna Davis at [EMAIL PROTECTED],  or at 800-669-2325, extension 5569 (574-5569).

Here are some additional details.

At the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to:
Describe effective uses of multimedia in the classroom.
Discuss Dale's Cone of Experiences as it relates to using videos in the classroom.
Compare and contrast the delivery model of video with that of video streaming and downloading.
Demonstrate a working understanding of the terms "streaming" and "downloading."
Discuss copyright issues as they pertain to both print and digital material and how they affect classroom teachers.
Select videos and video clips and download them to a specified video folder.
Develop a lesson plan that integrates video downloads.
Create a list of possible technology integration ideas with video and video clips.
Apply knowledge of PowerPoint, HyperStudio, FrontPage or other compatible software to create a multimedia document.

Specific Multimedia skills explained and demonstrated include:
Using a storyboard to develop a presentation
Understanding, identifying, and using different layouts.
Creating and manipulating multiple pages (cards, slides, etc.)
Adding and manipulating text.
Navigating and hyperlinking to the downloaded video clip.
Adding special effects to the file(s).
Identifying available copyright-free graphics and sounds, selecting them to save, and to integrate in a presentation folder.
Demonstrating an understanding of graphic design and presentation by incorporating various design tips and tricks.

If you have any questions, please contact Harriet Adams, [EMAIL PROTECTED], 800-669-2325, extension 5565.

I look forward to seeing many of you on November 20th.
