Subject: iTunes Volume App Purchases

So there has been some questions on the process of the iTunes Volume App
purchases.

Here is what it means: You are no longer able to push a paid app out onto
multiple iPods, legally. For instance, last year at this time, you could
purchase iFitness ($2.99) for your class set of iPod Touches for your health
class. You could push that app onto 20 iPods and not worry about paying for
that app 20 times.

You can no longer do that. With the volume app purchases, you must buy vouchers
from Apple and then they send a list of codes to redeem those via the iTunes
Store. It actually gives you the ability to distribute those to individuals.
Similar to how we distribute audible codes to our C21 participants. This
process is really setting Apple up for large scale deployments of iPads/iPods.
They see it as a way of distributing textbooks/digital apps for the iPad to
individuals in certain classes.

Take some time if you are interested more in this process to read the FAQ page,
the webinar, and the Volume purchasing program page. Apple has a lot of work to
do to simplify this process. Tony Vincent wrote a great blog post about the
confusion of this process here:
http://learninginhand.com/blog/app-store-volume-purchase-program-explained.html

In essence, the days of a teacher downloading a paid app and deploying it on a
class set of 20 iPods are over. Please note: FREE apps are not associated with
this process.
