Afternoon Session

1:00-3:30
Scott reported on the disposal of old computers that we discussed at the last meeting.  It sounds like ICCC will haul the old machines to Red Oak for the cost of the fuel down and back.  Scott will email by the end of the week for inventory numbers so we can figure out how we are going about getting the machines to the ICCC truck.

Scott reported that there has been no change in the ICN Ethernet project.

There was a little bleep that ITEC will be separating from ASCD.

Lance says any e-rate filers that forgot to file their 470's there is an umbrella 470Šcontact Lance for this.  Spin changes can be filed until you file your next 486.

Jeremy Pearson and Tim Buenz did a demo on SIF (School Interoperability Framework).  This will allow you to do data entry in one application and push to all other apps.  This program would help tremendously with the databases that you are keeping on the students right now.  The state wants to collect just enough data to suffice the feds for "No Child Left Behind".
Scott will post updates on the list.

Charlton Pendry and Jeremy Pearson of the Fort Dodge District spoke about some of the changes to the Fort Dodge District.
*All Buildings are running on single mode fiber (10bldgs)
*New central building switches.
*UPS to power core switch.
*New Air Conditioning in the Server room at the Arey building.  This was a must after moving all the servers to this building.
*New server for the business office.
*Cisco routing

Charlton posed a question to all of the tech's that were there; What are you using to keep all of your student spreadsheets the sameŠwith the same data?  There was a long discussion about this and the result was that Rick would talk to John O'Connell about all of the tracking and ask about a state system.  It was also brought up that there should maybe be an ICN Session or can it be discussed at the Chief Administrators meeting?

The meeting wrapped up with a tour of the Fort Dodge Community School District server farm.

Next Meeting will be February 20, 2003, in Storm Lake.
There will be information coming on this.
