The liveCD -any liveCD- does not do anything to any filesystem on
hardrives. that's why it's cal

Well, I personally never thought this type of peripheral would have played into
LiveCD/install boot stability at all, but the culprit was the USB keyboard that
I had plugged in. I was using an Apple A1243 (Aluminum Wired USB) keyboard,
and I switched that out replacing it with an old Dell PS/2
ZFS boot team add something in snv_90, you should run update_grub by
manual after image-update.
Now you could boot up from original BE and do the following to update
your grub.
# umount /mnt
# pfexec mount -F zfs rpool/ROOT/opensolaris-1 /mnt
# pfexec /mnt/boot/solaris/bin/update_grub -R /mnt

I've got a shiny new ASUS M3A78-EMH board with an AMD Phenom 9750 processor and
8GB of PC2-8500 RAM. OpenSolaris 2008.05 LiveCD freezes after nv_86
banner/copyright notice. When booted with '-kv', I see that it get's to PCI

The liveCD shouldn't have done anything to your host system. If you
booted it and ran it to look around only. What was on the external
firewire drive?
