As already said in this thread, the major issue for 5.4 adaption was APC, so I really like that we get a 5.5 compatible optimizer. We are planning to go into beta mode next week which is a feature freeze. Therefore optimizer would not make it in, but I think as the code is already mature and not just a random new feature I think we can allow this into core during beta phase, maybe for 5.5 disabled by default.
