*Location: Quincy, MA* *Duration: 1 year* *Phone than face to face* *Primary Responsibilities* This role will be engaged in designing and supporting a 24/7 Red Hat server infrastructure and will have responsibility for engineering, operating, maintaining, and supporting the overall Red Hat server architecture supporting the new licensing and registration solution. The RMVM solution is a mixture of Oracle SOA/ESB (Web Logic), Informatica Data Management, and IBM identity (ISIM/ISAM) and software development (Rational) applications. The individual will also provide support for implementation, troubleshooting and updates of applications on these servers. This role provides migration support as the RMVM builds out and transitions legacy applications to the new Oracle technology based applications on Red Hat Enterprise Linux platforms. This position will involve interaction with other entities such as MassDOT IT and Commonwealth of Mass ITD teams and management. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Managing system infrastructure and related processes, including the virtualization environment on VMware platform as well as, a. Account management, software/OS updates and patching, OS installations. b. Web Service application installation and maintenance (e.g. Subversion, Web Logic, Web Sphere, Tomcat, etc.) c. Installation and configuration of new application, web and database servers and server decommissioning activities. d. Responding to Service Desk incidents regarding end user problems associated with the systems. e. Assisting developers with isolation and resolution of application issues which are service, operating system or hardware based. f. Performance analysis and tuning, specifically in a Java, SAN, VMWare environment. g. Automation of systems management tasks (e.g. Shell scripting and Puppet). h. System and application monitoring and alerting. i. Ensuring network and system security. *Qualifications * a. BS in Computer Science (or equivalent), relevant professional certifications or proven equivalent work experience b. 5 - 8 years of recent, real-world experience working with Linux in a large, complex data center environment. c. Experienced working on and within a VMwares cloud environment. d. Experience with multiple distributions including Red Hat, SUSE, and Ubuntu. e. Experience with enterprise Storage Area Network (SAN) technologies such as EMC, Hitachi or NetApp. f. Good understanding of disk management LVM, RAID, FDISK. g. Experience working with automation and deployment tools (e.g. Puppet, Chef, and/or Cfengine, etc..). h. Strong background working with network/web service applications (e.g. JBoss, WebSphere, Web Logic, apache, tomcat, etc). i. Deep understanding of TCP/IP all the way from hardware-layer up to common services and routing principles. j. Ability to work collaboratively with teammates working in a mixed OS environment-enterprise-scale data center. k. Ability to identify and describe problems and take initiative to engage others in collaborative solution-seeking. l. Be eager to learn new technologies, take personal responsibility and ownership for technical projects. m. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and be able to adapt to changing business needs. Strong follow up skills and problem solving ability a must. n. Strong focus on performance, quality, and scalability. o. Experience working with Cloud-based services and virtualization technologies such as Amazon Web Services and VMware-VCenter. p. Experience with script development and maintenance is required. q. Excellent documentation skills. r. Ability to learn quickly and perform under extreme conditions. s. Technical expertise in troubleshooting and resolving network and server infrastructure problems. t. Knowledge of scheduling jobs and automation. u. UNIX/Linux security, compliance and regulation experience required. v. Prior experience on projects with federal, state or local government is desirable, but not required. w.
