Theme

Globalization is a complex and ambiguous process. It leads to the
convergence of social and economic processes and the formation of
international institutions. It also increases the interdependence
among countries as well as opening up new opportunities and
prospects. However, there are some tensions between the logic of
liberal economic institutions and democratic practices, on the one
hand, and the established forms of social interaction with particular
traditions and values, on the other. This situation generates many
theoretical and practical problems and tasks. Hence, it is impossible
for us in these contemporary times to live "as before." Social,
political and economic stabilities depend on our ability adequately
to respond to the challenges of these global times. In turn, our
ability is to be able to learn and to be open to dialogue and
reciprocal understanding.

Community and tradition are the main subjects in the process of
globalization, and hence the center of our attention today. The
following topics are major concerns from philosophical, social,
political science and related perspectives for this conference.
Nevertheless, other proposals and approaches are also welcome:

Is tradition an obstacle to globalization? Or, on the contrary, do
tradition and culture have answers to the problems of the modern
world?

- What is the fate of national communities in global times?
- How are the borders and boundaries between communities determined
  in the current global times?
- How is the global order possible and what is the fate of
  nation-states?
- How do environmental issues force transformation in modern society?
- How is it possible to have a moral consensus in a situation of
  social diversity?
- What kind of threat is posed to the values of freedom, justice and
  humanism by globalization?
