Hi everyone.
I have been working with some IPMI cards and ipmitool and I am getting
very frustrated. So I figured I would ask some people who have more
experience than me about this. So here is whats up.

I help maintain a cluster of over 700 machines with most of them being
some form of a Supermicro system with Supermicro IPMI cards. Currently,
I have machines with the AOC-SIMLC(+) or the AOC-SIMSO(+). All of them
work when we receive the machine from our various vendors and are used
for at least the system installation since we redirect everything to the
serial port for SOL.

Now I can't exactly give a time frame on this, but anywhere between like
a week and a month or two, the IPMI cards stop responding on the
network. No ping, No Web interface, and No response to commands from
ipmitool. (I am using -I lanplus if that makes a difference). I have
tried several things to try to get the cards to work including doing
'ipmitool bmc reset cold' from the host, reconfiguring the IPMI network
settings through 'ipmitool lan set', updating the firmware with the
latest from Supermicro, completely power cycling the box, and defaulting
then configuring the card using the Supermicro ipmicfg utility.
Unfortunately, this is happening on a lot of boxes.

Do any of you have any recommendations on things to try? Have any of you
had experiences similar to this? Do the Supermicro cards really suck
this bad? At first I was thinking it was just one or two bad cards. But
after at least 20 doing something like this, I wonder if it is a flaw in
the cards. Any information that you all might have would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks for the help.
