You do need IPv6 and IPv4 on the XP host, but the host can exist in an
IPv6-only network if you put an IPv6-capable nameserver on the host and
let the host use that. It is only XP's own resolver that is limited to
IPv4.

As to IPv6 requiring manual installation, I'm not sure. When I set XP up
in a VM, it seems to be IPv6-aware out of the box. Maybe it depends on
the SP level? I am not a Windows sort of guy, so could well be wrong.

Given that solving the DNS issue requires massive intervention on the
host, actually getting IPv6 running is probably a minor problem :-)
