Dave,
Here's an interesting link to the subject. Captain Duffy of the US Merchant
Marines was captured by the German's and turned over to the Japanese for
slave labor during his imprisonment. The link has his story relating to the
SWL listeners who notified his parents of capture.
I think Rod Zimmerman came to WBBM from KMOX.

Good tip ! I have them logged under other calls here so I won't spend time
chasing them. When one looks at the 1 kw night pattern at the FCC site, one
see little ( less than a few hundred watts) signal sent your way and almost
certainly not enough to be beating on local WXNT night after night.
The RadioIntel.com site seems to have reverted to a domain parking
webpage; a domain lookup shows it expired today. I hope this doesn't
mean this great resource is gone for good - they had a number of
useful reviews of Ultralight radios, for example.

One wonders here. WGIV has been a frequent abuser in the past, and I think
they were fined for it, back when 5KW and pesty here in IL.I don't have much
of a setup for stressing SE stations currently but honestly haven't noted
any money business from them in a few years. I think they're 16 kw

Yes they were.
Willis's post is well written here !! As he simply
suggests that they may
be on day power,
Hey Kevin (and Paul);
In my original report I did say must have been on day rig albeit
without proof. The word must does have significance. Must have been
on day rig does NOT imply cheating, in itself. It could be an honest
mistake, faulty equipment, emergency or whatever. I do find it odd

Congratulations on earning your first QSL. I hope you get many more in the

Also, where is your location? I had real difficulty trying to hear it in
Michigan although many out on the west coast heard it easily.

Yes, they are listed as 16kw.
I don't think you'd have much QSB at your distance
If they were on Day power Willis would have had to
water cool his IF's at that power level and distance.
