On our final night on Kauai, we had torrential downpours all night long, so
monitoring was restricted to the part of the lanai most protected from the wind
and the rain! I monitored between 16:11 and 17:05 UTC (6:11 to 7:05 AM).
Conditions seemed quite good, and I quickly realized that

Hi, Steve. Just about the only TA noted on the west coast has been Radio
Farda. As for LW reception, most of us are hampered by poor reception due
to noise. Great catch for sure! I think hams get some decent TA reception
on their 1.8 MHz band. Did hear Radio Farda here yesterday morning (in

Northwest DXers have long considered the possibility of TA's at our
local sunrise, but I don't recall anyone ever doing it before, except
for Radio Farda.
According to Geoclock, it peaked at least 30 minutes before local sunset
at the transmitter.

First of all, congrats to Steve on hearing France on 162 this morning.
Here in Alberta I've heard the odd European on LW in the morning, but
never succeeded in hearing any on MW. We do hear the Middle East, with
the UAE, Kuwait, and Iran heard in the morning, but those aren't truly

I have a 12' x 33' Flag antenna. We have had recent snow here in the UK. The
bottom wire of my Flag is under some 2 foot of snow. I feel I have lost some
directivity with the antenna. Can the snow affect the directivity of a Flag
antenna? If so, I'll dig it out of the white stuff

Steve:
I hear 162-France here most days around local sunset, along with
153-Norway and 189-Iceland. Can't say I've ever noticed them in the
mornings. If I do hear any LW stations then they're always TP's. Last
evening I had those 3 plus 198-UK and some faint audio on 234 and 252,

Congratulations Colin. I admit most of my radio hobby time is spent
transmitting, but I do like to just listen from time to time.
A noteworthy achievement.
