I was ( although I didn't say so ) excluding the SDR-IQ completely on account
of that very big limitation. If you want to cover the full BCB, it isn't
happening today for under a grand so far as I know.

Nothing here at LSS but WTRU all alone and blasting in as usual. WCRN has
never been heard here. But I'll get anything from NC before I hear even a peep

You can get the well-received WinRadio Excalibur for $850 or the just as
good QS1R for $999. Both record at least 2 MHZ worth of RF.

appeared in DX Monitor just recently...and of course, none of the
analog receivers covered the full BCB either! Mine cover one channel
at a time, and they need a separate audio recorder for that
Just haven't had a moment to give my reflections on the Perseus. One
problem I am having is that on play-back of recordings, particularly when I
am just getting underway a wave a static buzz kicks in. It's not on the
recording, because by replaying I can sometimes get rid of it completely.
Thanks Chuck and Nick, although in the one case, we're quibbling over $2 g.
Even so, I have trouble justifying $850 though. I don't think I've spent that
much cumulatively over my years in the hobby, considering two HQ-150's and two
ICF 2010's. For the record, I bought my first HQ-150 used in
Jim,
Can the noise you hear be characterized as stuttering - e.g. choppy
sounding audio? When I use external USB drives with my Perseus, I often get
that effect (some drives are worse than others). I've switched to an eSATA
interface external drive, and never get that problem any more.

Colin, your Pacific Island reception (or lack thereof) is pretty much
identical to what I experienced in Kauai in late Nov/early Dec. Try the

I'm not a big user of SDR's Mike, but ignorance has never stood in
the way of an opinion, I'm afraid. I own an RFSpace SDR-14 (and
use several more at work in a type of wideband sonar system), and
have used a borrowed SDR-IP; both have been used with their own

Hmmm, second hand SDRsonly a matter of time. They may lose

I understand and agree that SDR's are very likely the future, and I have no
problem with that conceptually. After all, over the past 5-6 years, probably
