Hello To All,
Propagation was decent last evening ,however the noise and static factor was
evident as the Solar Index number indicated such. Signals on the band were
predominately from 900-1700 khz and anything below 900 was subdued
substantially.

Here at my location 105 miles north of the MB/ North Dakota border in
western Manitoba, WNAX comes in quite decent on a car radio with CKSW
underneath. On a Superadio II with a Sanserino loop it comes in great. Since
WNAX is located almost straight south and CKSW is straight west, I can null
The WNAX transmitter/tower sits very close to the Missouri River. Next
time I'm down that way I'll try to remember to get pics of it.
The night time pattern happens to line up with the river and I'm sure
the ground conductivity has a lot to do with the range considering it's
only 5KW.

Thanks to everyone for the history on moves to 650 Khz. I have another history
question. When did the following stations move to 880; KRVN WMEQ KJJR and
CHQT?
I originally started DXing in the early 70's. My dad used to listen to
distant broadcasts like the Grand Ole Opry and that's how I
Hi Kenneth,
I'm pretty certain that KRVN moved to 880 in 1972.

CHQT was in the late 1970s. Old IRCAns will recall the Gnus From the Frozen
North column that appeared, particularly the one titled, Read it and Cringe
in which the CRTC's plans for high powered stations on the prairies first
appeared in DXM. That was sometime in 1977.

WNAX at 469 miles is a BOG catch here in Barrington IL if I aim basically due
west, taking out any WMAM. Ditto further north in Grafton WI (20 miles N of
Milwaukee) if I aim BOG properly and don't have too much WMAM. From Barrington,
phasing WIND helps. Westerly cardioid antennas also get it
