I've seen some photos online of the aftermath of the bad tornado that struck
Joplin MO this evening. Many buildings were unfortunately directly hit.
Thoughts and prayers to the people there. I haven't yet heard specifics of
emergency broadcasts but I'm sure they are happening. ms
Rick, sure, go ahead and forward it. I got thrown off ABDX awhile ago...
don't even remember what for now;)
KSDN's tower got hit by lightning which destroy the skirt on the tower and
sent the surge into the transmitter.

I tried to tune into nearby KKOW-860 to get storm coverage (which they excel
at), but there was too much static on the band here. Didn't dawn on me until
long afterwards to listen to their streaming audio. The way the Weather
Channel
talked, this thing was a monster, like an F-4 or perhaps
I tink it's been said this was a very very strong F3, thats what I THOUGT Id

Aaron Barnhart at the Kansas City Star says they can't make a
determination of the size of the tornado yet, since damage-assessment
teams haven't

Paul-
From personal experiance with tornados, and by what CBS showed this morning
from a storm chaser, it was closer to an F-5. It was larger than the one we
had here back on 27 April that ripped a wide path through Cleveland.

Thanks for the update Dennis.
Sad news. I was aware that they had the simulcast going on but didn't expect
them to leave the band, particularly for sports radio. On a reverse note, I
was sad to see 101.1 KUFO's hard rock disappear as well. I really thought both
stations had high enough
Some of the damage looked EF4 or even EF5 in places.

Interesting. Hey on 760 at night, what station do you normally hear there?
Does KFMB from San Diego, CA, make an appearance up there?

Presently listed as a strong EF4 with 198 MPH winds. Just two down from
an EF5. Whatever the strength, its path into a densely populated area
makes it all the more tragic.
Godspeed!

Recently looking at Jay Allen's (of RadioIntel) new webpage

I notice I made an error in describing the output of the varactor-tuned
transformer--this isn't at the 455 kHz IF that I said, but is still the
MW-band RF signal coming from the antenna. This is fed to the LA1260 IC
which then does the conversion to the IF.
I've revised my Review to show
Hello Steve (and all),
Thanks for the excellent CCRadio-EP technical review, Steve.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for reminding me.
I didn't mention it in my review, but the Litz used on the EP radio's
loopstick appears to be decent. It's quite fat in diameter compared to the
usual tiny Litz found on the usual portable radio loopsticks. Purely
guessing, but I'd guess the EP loopstick Litz

IRCA for me was a major lifeline for me growing up secluded and has a very
special place in my heart. Colorado is somewhat close to me but unfortunately I
am going to two different non radio conventions this year. I should see though
if buddies in our MDXC club would be interested in hosting an

Bill,
I am surprised you get KFMB more than you get CFLD as I hear CFLD more
than KFMB here. BV 870 is not as common.
