Yes, Australia on 828 isn't that uncommon from here in September. This
morning's signal wasn't anything special, so I didn't keep a
recording. Nothing from Asia at all this am. The Asians don't hit
their prime here until October, so in another month I'm sure it will be

To go along with that, electronic technicians are also becoming obsolete.
There used to be a day when you would troubleshoot a board by carefully
applying a scope or meter probe to the appropriate place to take a
measurement. Those appropriate places are now dwarfed by the size of the
probe. Diag

What were you hearing during the solar upset Derek? It's a bit too
early yet after a geomagnetic storm to be hearing Asiatics in these
more northern climes, and Nigel has an even more northerly path from
Asia than we do in the northwest.

At my lake cabin I have an Apex (Best Buy) digital converter...getting
over-the-air TV from a rooftop antenna. Hash is generated that goes right

I was able to eliminate it by building an "RF Choke"...winding 11 turns of

Mark,
I have lots of satellite gear, 6 different satellite receivers and 4
dishes in the backyard and if you get within 6 feet of the receivers,
they do generate digital hash, but move away, there is no noise.
No noise detected on the R8 from any of the satellite gear 20 feet away.

Hi Patrick. He probably meant the gear associated with DSL service...that
usually includes some form of router (aka "Hash Generator")
Another fabulous noise-box is the set-top converter for digital TV!

Good catch for KELO, your on a side lobe of their array.
Greg Belfrage does the QSLs there by email. the "contact us" link on

DSL causes noise? I have heard there is no issue with DSL from some

Closest local here in Grand Rapids is KOZY (1320); their tx is about 7½ miles

The station web pages were all screwy, with innacurate program info,

Ouch Dennis,
I have a few pests myself that make DXing a bit of a challenge at times.
KXRB 1000 10KW /100Wt, both directional, 5 miles
KSOO 1140 10KW ND/5KW Dir. 4 miles
KELO 1320 5KW ND/Dir. 3 miles
The directional patterns of those 3 converge in my living room.
