KQNA has been on the air for 2 hours past sunset for many years and there is no
change in the power after sunset. When they go off its the same time all month
to the second so I am thinking they use a timer to s/off. At times they have
s/off in the middle of a ad or a weather
Hey All ,Was just looking at my QSL collection and wondering, What where your
best years for QSLing? That is, did you get more in any one year then in some
other? My best year to date(so far) was `09 with just under a dozen. Just a
thought. Good dx to all, Robbie in Wyoming (about 200 miles
I did not keep track of the number of MW QSLs I received each year
before about 1990. But since then, 2000 was my best year with 134 QSLs.
To compare, I got only 6 QSLs in 2010, 11 in 2009. I haven't been at the
dials as much, and also logging new stations since I have DXed here on
the coast since
Although my accomplishments are far inferior to Patrick's I can remember a few
years in the 1970s and 80s when it would not be uncommon to receive a dozen
QSLs every two weeks or less during the winter DX season. Oh for those halcyon
days when the QSLs returns far outnumbered the holdouts and
My best years for QSL'ing were when I was into the hobby at full throttle, from
the spring/summer of 1988 and for about a decade after that. First QSL I ever
got was from WOWO, for a sunset reception from Iowa City on 2/27/1988. Most
distant QSL (approx. 1386 mies) was for a wee-hours

But, of course, since about the late 1990s, the rate of stations
replying to QSL requests has been rapidly declining. I sent out 7
letters in 2011, and only 1 (KBRF-1250) bothered to respond.
Streaming of audio has taken a lot of the novelty out of what was once

Jim,
Yes indeed, the non QSLer was rare. I remember KDAC Fort Bragg CA being
one of those. The owner did not like DXers for some reason. I heard them
in the late 60s and on occasion in the early to mid 70s when local KVAS
was off. I never could get a QSL out of them. No one could during the
era
Thanks for the nice memories...my best QSL's were from KFI, KENO (Nev), KWYO,
KGHL, KRDS (Ariz), KYMN (Ore), KEEN (Ca)...and that was when I could hear them
in NJ!!!

Reminds me of the days when stations like WBZ, WABC, WNBC, WCBS, WSB,
etc were common here in Oregon. Ah, the good ol' days
