My SDR recording these mornings grabs samples at 0800, 0900, 1000 and
1500 UT. This morning, the earlier ones were very poor, but the
1500UT recording was fairly lively, especially at the top of the
band, where 1566 audio was fairly good, weak NHK pips on 1593 (not
the usual CNR1), and weak au
Walt,
I woke up early Thursday morning at 1100 utc and found no audio

180 RUSSIA, Radio Rossii 0642 poor signal with some audio getting through.

I had "very poor/poor" level on 594 Asian this morning at 1536 utc--hardly
worth mentioning. (A couple notches above Nigel's "faint mumbling".) Several
weak hets; even 1566 was never more than a weak het. First audio I've had in
several days, didn't consider it worth mentioning at the time.

Thanks, Nigel. Alberta is often very different (as is Arizona!)
compared to us here on the west coast/WA/OR. Maybe everyone else has
given up for the season? .Walt

I wouldn't go so far as to say it was good reception here, but Japan on
747/774 was at least above the "faint mumble" level I've had of late.
Those were the only two with anything approaching decent audio though.

Almost every frequency I tuned to early this morning had multiple signals
including the normal western "clears".
A couple of particulars were 640 with usual KFI LA with under and sometimes
over from an SS musica signal. Has another 640 switched formats to SS?

Bruce,
I know very little about TP stuff, but what little I read from Colin's
description of what he heard sounds like the station on Saipan that
recently signed on.

It's more likely Kiribati, especially if you're hearing it early in the
evening. The station moved there from 846 sometime last year.

WBZ has no IBOC this evening, which is very unusual in itself, but they are
also weaker than usual, and their carrier is on 1029.999 instead of the usual
dead-on 1030. This all leads me to believe that they might be using their
backup transmitter...

One thing I have noted, that is a little different,
is that 1440khz is occupied all the time by an Island
sounding station with Island music and talk in
a micronesian sounding dialect -
PAL indicates this could be Saipan - normally 300W at
night, they have a wicked signal early on and through the
Bit of noise this AM -- around 1500 UTC -
and apart from the regular Island sounds on
540, 738, 1017 and 1098 -
not much to speak of - lots of hets and hints of
audio on many splits - but apart from 1548
with great audio and pop music (assuming Emerald, Queensland...)
Normally, I would be hearing

Hi Guys:
An hour or so of Sunset DXing last night netted nothing NEW, I did manage a
CALL CHANGE RELOG. Things have been rather slow here for New Ones lately!! At
least this is a 1 KW Station that is tough to hear, even though it is fairly
close to me!!

Having a quick listen this morning (no time for any details), but
quite good reception from the bottom to the top of the band of all the
usual first tier stations from Japan, especially. Wonder what others
have heard. 73,...Walt
