I've always mounted the tuning cap outside of the coil - immediately outside it
at the end of one of the arms. That reduces or eliminates the issue.

Interesting. Have also observed the same over the years with my locals.
Both LA local KFI and KNX seem to have been received better years ago ( 1960's-
1970's). When living east of LA during the same time frame, locals there also
seem to be received better also. What was different then
Try using a non-conductive tuning shaft extension (nylon, plastic,
phenolic/fiber). This has worked well with LC oscillators and TX output PA
tuning networks. Also use a non-conductive knob.

Early this morning I added another station into my ultralight log.

The locals here do not have the big bucks. They keep them running, but
not a lot on maintainence. Small market radio has always been that way,
however with the downturn in the economy it is worse today. At least
here, I doubt the stations are running less power on purpose. The land

I've got a big black plastic knob on the thing. I think the main
problem is that the tuning capacitor is mounted inside the loop, and I
get hand capacitance effect without even touching the capacitor or the
knob.
I may try moving the capacitor to a spot outside the loop, or maybe
even use some

What is the design of that loop
Just a basic 2 foot, 12 turn box loop, 18 gauge windings spaced at
7/16. The capacitor I happened to have on hand is just a single
section Hammerlund job that I had scavenged from somewhere.

There's just the open carrier (still) on 900 kHz Eric. Ironically, a
few weeks after shutting down the AM broadcasts but remaining as an
internet broadcaster, the station was given notice to shut down
completely due to lack of funds for the sponsoring program at Camosun

Hi All:

I checked 900 after reading the posting and yes, the carrier is still
there. Not an issue here, but quite strong S6 off the NE EWE.
