Hi All:
Driving through the Pittsburgh area yesterday I noted no sign of WLFP, 1550,
Braddock, PA. However PennDOT was on 1560 w/continuous loop of travvel website
info. Still no WZUM-1590, Carnagie. Everything else seemed normal. WLFP was
no more than a repeater anyway. I wonder if it's
Very nice Guy. By 0530UT, 1566 was pretty much gone here, so
maybe you are getting a better signal at your location. Now try
576, although that faded pretty rapidly after I'd reported it. The
irony is that I don't recall these signals at a time of year when
conventional TA reception
last night 1566 was very wispy carrier showing at 0350 ut June 26 using the
700' AF 60 deg wire. June 25th was better - fade in 0336 to f/out 0523,
both well defined (only had the 30 deg 1100 wire that night). But still
very weak and below audibility for even hearing a het. I will check for
576
Dennis,
Your 5CC lp on 1584 is outstanding that far inland. I only heard it once
back in the 80s and got a QSL, but even along the coast it is not common
for me. But often some lp upper band DUs really skip.

Hi Nick,
That alternative Perseus software we discussed earlier reads out carrier
measurements to four decimal places. I don't remember the exact, claimed
accuracy at the moment, but I think it was 0.2 Hz. (after auto-calibration
to a station 1000 kHz with a known accurate offset).

Good to have Dennis V's report--I didn't do nearly as well for good
audio. His being just a little farther north must help too--all my
signals gone by 1215 utc here.
But I would say it was a pretty decent morning for me despite a local
storm with S9+ static crashes the entire time (even worse

Dave Aichelman, N7NZH, recently made a trip to Kauai, Hawaii and returned
with top of the hour (TOH) and bottom of the hour (TOHH) Perseus WAV

His compact, phased array antenna was mostly aimed south toward Tahiti and
the South Pacific. He used a tent-pole

Quick question. Is it possible to download the Perseus software to
playback these files if you don't own the receiver? It's on my wish
list, but out of
my price range currently.

Hi Guy,
Care to share the name of this alternative software with the rest of the
class? Inquiring Perseus users want to know :-)
Thanks!

Hi Les,
The Perseus SDR can indeed operate without the Perseus hardware connected, *
but* the software needs to run at least once with an actual Perseus rig
connected before stand-alone operation of the software is possible.
However, I think a better alternative is to install the free HDSDR

Hi James,
These large files are not typical audio recordings. They are specialized
WAV files with encoding that represents a large swath of RF bandwidth. In
this case, the files contain the medium wave band as heard by Dave
Aichelman when he was visiting Hawaii with his Perseus SDR and antennas.
