Don was also a great supporter of the club in his day as well, I
know he was involved in the production of DX Monitor (editor?) , and
hosted the 1976 IRCA convention in San Francisco in the hotel that he
managed at the time, if my memory banks are firing on all

Walt,
It has been 3 years since John's passing? Where does the time go? We
have lost so many. As a good friend, Alan Roycroft, CE at many Hawaiian
stations for years used to say. "Before long we will be all history."
Alan passed away in about 2002.

This is very sad. I'd corresponded with Don a few times. Yes so sad about John
as well. One of the smartest people I'd ever known. I must admit that I never
go up a ladder without thinking of him and that being said I rarely go up a
ladder.

Damn. Don and I almost crossed paths many many times, but we never did meet. We
did keep up a lively email exchange about DXing, northern California things and
a football pool that he co-moderated. Wish I could safely retell some of the
stories he had. Don was the perpetual bridesmaid in the poo
Like everyone else, I was saddened to hear of Don's passing. I've known
him since the late 60s, and met him a few times in the 1970s. He was
always a great conversationalist, never taking himself or life too
seriously. He will definitely be missed by the DX community.

Kevin and all,
Wow! I am very sad to hear this. Don was a neat guy. I had known him
since we met in 1968 at a convention in Portland. I was 19 at the time.
Rest in peace my friend. You will really be missed.

Since I was local to Don, I called him quite a few times and was a guest at
his house once. He and his wife were both very nice people and very
gracious. I really enjoyed talking with Don and I'm feeling a big

I was fortunate to meet him at one of his DXer get togethers, held at

Sad, sad news! Don and I started DXing during the golden age of DX era and we

I am sorry to learn the news of Don's passing. I never met him but I have fond
memories
of getting copies of DX Monitor back in the 80's and reading the exploits of
the ERBA
gang (The El Rancho Bar Association) It seems that the Bay Area DXers always
had the
greatest stories to tell. RIP Don.
Things continued to go downhill this morning. The big guns showed some audio
around 1400UT, but what enhancement there was at 1500UT, was mid-band, and very
erratic and short-lived. Without the DXFishbarrel, I probably wouldn't have
heard what I did. Local noise kicking in at 1500UT didn't help.
This is sad news on a Tuesday. Don and I spoke a few times through some emails
and he was such a nice guy. He will be missed.

This is the saddest news I've heard in a long, long time. Don Kaskey was one
of the few survivors among the DX'ers who were members of the National Radio
Club when I joined in 1956. His love of the hobby and the friendships he
established during the subsequent 57 years were part of the founda

I first met Don when he hosted the West Sacramento NRC convention at the El

I'm absolutely stunned by this. He was a fellow Iowan, and I always enjoyed
e-mailing him about the common DXploits that he and I shared from our years in
the Hawkeye State. I think he logged close to 4000 AM stations over the years,
and that feat certainly puts him up there among the greats
