Hello All,
For those on the west coast who feel a little bored with their AM-DXing hobby,
why not try out a radical new form of DXpedition fueled by transoceanic
propagation boosts at sheer ocean side cliffs?
The theory of cliff-enhanced transoceanic propagation is similar to the effect
If that could segue into an actual scheduled DX test some night, I think a lot
of DXers would be happy campers. Perhaps the station could even benefit from
some of the data it receives in the form of reception reports or MP3 files. ms

I suspect it's testing the 12 KW auxiliary antenna. It's nondirectional. WMVP
is a DA-2 with a massive null to the west to protect KOMO.

That would be interesting if they were doing that after midnight or
whenever they choose to test. They would be alot stronger here if they were
testing their 12kw ND auxiliary site.

I just noticed that it has a CP for a 12 KW day auxiliary antenna at WLS, which
is nondirectional. Maybe it's been testing it.

And normally their null out west is very effective. It took me about 20
years to hear them for the 1st time, which is why it was so odd to hear
them regularly this past week.

Unfortunately, the WWXL-1450 DX Test did not make it into northern Vermont,

Hello All,
As Dennis and Bruce have already reported the band didn't have very many
vibrant Asians this morning, with only the high band big guns 1566-HLAZ and
1575-VOA having any real energy (both around 1330). The 1215 frequency here is
completely wiped out by a nonstop Spanish pest on 1
I got home about 2340 EDT last night with the test already well in
progress. I started listening and recording, and quickly noticed a
distinct peak near 1 kHz on the audio spectrum analyzer display from the
code signal (I run the audio output of my R75 into my Linux PC for

It was a really weird morning here. Most of the usual powerhouses were
either weak or absent today. Yet, I had audio from the same two
tentative Filipinos that Dennis reported. There were also tantalizing
carriers that almost produced audio on 1197, 1458, and 1494. VOA-1575

I'm not surprised. WMAQ (now WSCR), WGN, WBBM and WLS are all lower in the band
and nondirectional with one half wavelength towers. WMVP's night pattern has a
massive null to the west to protect KOMO.

We had a thunderstorm just before 2300 and I had to disconnect the outside
antennas for the Perseus. On a Sony SW7600 the Morse was audible but only a
character or two was readable at one time.
Several other stations were mixing at the same time.
