Hi Saul,
What you're describing sounds like a sampling incompatibility.
I use goldwave, and it has settings in Control Properties, Device, labeled
Playback Quality.
I have Audacity but haven't used it yet, but I'd go to the Edit menu,
Preferences, and Quality.
I'd try setting it at a sampling
I agree that it sounds like the settings are off. The result you describe
can happen in any of several recording applications when this occurs. You
ought to be able to work OK with a sampling rate of 32000. I've used lower
values than that without problems.

I think the station will be off the air for awhile after it's transmitter
site was burnt to a blackened crisp...

This was just the transmitter site for the IHeart(Clear Channel) station,
no studios there.
Look for both a difference in sample rate as well as the bit rate. I do
some editing on files using 44.1 KHz, while others use 48 KHz. A
difference in bit rate (as someone else mentioned earlier) could also make
a difference. The difference would be even more pronounced if sample rate

thanks for the tip, caught them at 2245 utc tonight with a clear WZPS id

There are anti-Malware products for MAC -- but they are largely not
needed...
And the product "MacKeeper" is, within itself, Malware - and in my
professional opinion... rubbish.
My earlier point was: Record some audio with as few APPs running in the
background.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I have incorporated some, and am
working this through. I think for whatever reason it is affecting FM
recordings, and not AM, or at least not noticeably, and I think I noticed
something that may have been going on longer, and that I noticed it because of
Saul, I did try for this after you first reported it to the BCB log on
dxworld.com a couple weeks ago, but couldn't reel it in. At night here, if
WOAI isn't ruling the frequency, it's usually KFNW in West Fargo, ND. So far,
KFNW has also gotten in the way of me getting much-needed KYOO in
They have 9 watts of night power ;=)

I could not sleep, last night, just after 3 AM EST. Dialed around a bit
and caught a new one. Heard a very strong signal on 1200 and knew that it
was not WOAI. Heard call and a promo for WZPS in Huntngton, WV. My first
one of the season. Could they have been doing some testing?
1200 WZPS WV
They were huge here last night. No way 9 watts. This has been going on for
awhile...

Audacity problem. It's started warbling audio after I delete the excess and
save the patch I want. Sounds like it's under water. I've even deleted my copy
of Audacity and downloaded a fresh new one. Still happens. Any ideas?

Thanks, Colin. What could an antivirus program do to an audacity edit? I'm
using a Mac, if that means anything. I've uploaded a sample to WTFDA Forums and
reference it in another post to this list
