What a frustrating mess is the best I can say. Conditions were
reasonable from about 1430UT onwards, mostly the big guns though not
terribly strong. A little after 1500UT, things really opened up,
sort of. Lots of carriers, extremely erratic fading meant that you

Saul,
I can’t help to identify your basketball game station, but I did want to remark
at how well WPSO is coming in up North. I’ve never been able to log them
here—can’t even hear a trace of them tonight.
As of about 10:30 PM the “warbler” station was so low, it was impossible to DF
reliably.
On 1500 on Jan 20 at 7:45 pm EST, at Burnt River ON, I had WPSO pretty strong
with Greek music (and while I have had lots of the QRM that has plagued the
channel there was none apparent in this recording).

Quite amazing. I was called to the hospital at 03:20, and returned at
04:45 local. Unfortunately, I headed straight to bed instead of checking
the bands, but was very impressed when I rechecked around 15:00 UTC, and
even more impressed by the sudden departure of signals 30 min later!

Then you'll see that what you hear at 06 to 07 often is no reflection of
how conditions in the morning will be! Yes, very coy!!!Walt

I was mainly listening to SW this evening, but made a quick check of 1500 at
0106 UT Feb 6 and did hear the warbling het, as not much signal from KSTP at
the moment, but not in a position to get a DF on it, other than generally E/W
from here. 73, Glenn Hauser, OK

To each his own and not to criticize in any way, but if I can't hear at
least trace audio that I am sure is from the station, I can't count it as
logged.

Neil,
Thanks for passing along that information.
This is also possibly an opportunity to log a new station, depending on how you
chose to interpret an ID. If we’re able to narrow the problem now to a single
station, report it to their ownership or CE and the problem gets corrected,

I'll stress two things, 1) This doesn't sound like a typical Cuban warbler
but is simply badly noise on the sidebands from some tx issue.
2) This has been going on since mid fall.

There are certainly one or two odd things there - I might be getting traces
of IBOC from someone but
I did hear what sounded like a 500 hz warble that was pretty steady.

Rob,
Thank you for volunteering. I’ll go outside tonight and try to make the best
possible loop bearing towards the noise from my location. I hope that others
will contribute as well.
So far, I’ve seen the following reports.

Yes, wasn't that amazing? Haven't heard of any EMP or anything like
that, hi. Fortunately it's recorded, but I suspect my evening will
be spoken for by going through the recording.

I seem to rise on off mornings.

Most of us are using bi-directional (simple) loops, but we’re spread out
geographically. If we plot these on a map, we should be able to determine the
location pretty quickly. Assuming that the culprit is a licensed broadcaster
with transmitter problem, there are a limited number of suspects.
I agree, Nick, but just as suddenly, somewhere around 15:30, it was like
someone throwing a switch, and gone! 73,...Walt
