you. Does KGED own the 1550 ? Which frequency did they have to turn in for
the 1680 ? Did you see that two groups applied to replace the 1470 at Coalinga
(+ Huron, CA) Same location as the old KKFO - at the city
There are way too many AM stations. The newer -- most often lower power
stations make as much noise as IBOC. Combine all of the new add on Clear
channel drop ins -- most with powers below 5 KW at night and even more below 1
KW at night to low powered local channels. All 107 AM channels now
I agree with Kieth. I support the idea that TV channels 5 and 6 should be
transfered over to the FM radio service. I would also suggest that TV channels
2, 3 and 4 be allocated to the FM band --if possible.

There are very -- very few Digital stations assigned to the lower channels --
from 2 to 6. The FCC allowed TV stations to pick which channel they wanted to
use - after moving to digital in 2009. Most TV engineers want to stay away
from the low end problems. Only time will tell -- .
Alot of the AM stations that are turning in the AM license for a new FM channel
-- are owned by the CBC or big station groups. They wouldn't put their old
transmitters on eBay. They have too many to sell or get rid of. They would
use a broker to get rid of them all. One more reason to keep

Yes, the good old KRKD AM tower. It still stands and I can say that I once
owned KRKD FM. I loved listening to Huggy Boy on KRKD AM from 12 AM till 5 AM.
He was one of the best LA jocks. He would Buy Time on KRKD for his own
show. He pushed and pluged both the Count Five and the Seeds --
Good Point. No one ever uses the 12 AM to 6 AM period for testing now days.
Everyone is to busy broadcasting regular programs to pay off the high cost or
the radio station.

3 applications were filed to replace the 1470 at Coalinga, CA. Two at Coalinga
with only 400 watts and a directional antenna system at night, from the City
Water Works yard -- where KKFO was, and the third application seeks 1470 at
Huron, CA -- just 10 miles east of Coalinga. The Huron

Try 1570 -- . KZRO FM -- in Mt. Shasta operates a VLP AM re-broadcst of the
FM on 1570 from a 10 foot pole on top of the studio. Only about another 10

KNBR on 680. --- There is a plack at the old transmitter site of KQW, now
used by the 1170 AM in San Jose. But before KQW became KCBS on 740 -- KQW was
on 1010 Khz. KTRB in Modesto was assigned 740. In the 1941

All federal government stations are assigned call signs or ID's -- that are
required to be used. Even the local FBI uses it's call signs. The FCC
offices -- have call signs -- but use a Station ID in place of a call sign.

And New Northwest sold of 92.9 C1 to Salem Broadcasting for some big dollars --
so that Salem could re-locate 92.9 C3 in the center of Portland -- 80 miles
away. Why wouldn't they move 1370 AM over to a Class C2 or C1 -- on a new FM
band ???They would have five years to sell or build
Scott -- I am glad to hear that there are still some good or even great -- AM
daytime stations. Maybe we should take a pro-active / possitive approach and
take the time to make a list of AM stations -- that do still serve the local
community. Anyone ??
That's try the AM daytimers in Small towns -- under 50,000 persons -- not in a
metro area -- then work on into the Big Cities. Looking for local programs --
live air persons -- cover local news sports. What is it that you think
makes a good radio station. What do you say ?
Stations that have the radials stolen -- should notify the local Police, FBI,
and FCC. Then replace the system -- as authorized. Same size and length wire.

Yes and no. Most often NO. The FCC would require a power reduction in most
cases. Have you ever seen a Class 4 AM -- with a power like 833 watts Day and
Night. ( I think the 1400 Silverdale, WA has less than 1 KW ). That is
because -- AM stations -- are like the Educational FM
KAST was given an extended band channel -- not because of daytime IF -- but
because KAST's nightime operations prevented others from fulltime night
service. Not close to KAST -- but more than 200 miles away. So by KAST not
moving -- others are prevented from better serving their local
