Since coming on the air on Oct 17th of last year, with the
exception of the first few days of various flavors of
music, it has been non stop Mexican music. ID's were four
times per hour.
I have been spot checking their programming and today
noticed a big change. They are airing WMJH 95.3 FM and
WCAZ 990 was in well again this morning at their s/on
beginning at 05:58CST and even better around 07:00.
It's ironic how the FCC works. A station can have a
crappy, distorted signal or splatter across the entire
band for days on end when they don't monitor their own on
the air signal. That's OK
WCAZ 990 noted s/on this morning Dec 12th. at 05:58CST
with vocal NA and ID at TOH. Weak with WMVP slop. I have
to use USB due to somebody in neighborhood with electronic
gadget producing a modulated tone right on 990 LSB.
So, they are still on the air.
What do they owe the FCC?

WMFN is still playing music, the first day was mostly
American/english songs, later mostly Spanish/Mexican
flavor, then Russian dialect, some German, middle-eastern
and this evening some Asian/Japanese. Their ID is usually
at TOH and BOH or a minute or two later, and occasionally
scattered around
WMFN 640khz Peotone/Chicago ILL, appears to still be on
day power more than an hour past sunset. Get em now!
They are playing Mexican flavor music all day long and are
still at it now (7:05pm CDT).

One of my semi-local stations, WKBM 930, is splattering on
audio peaks. Clearly heard here 20 miles from their site.
A few days ago I drove out there to prove it is them. Up
close on car radio the splatter is clearly heard 150khz
above and below 930khz.

If a station is east of you, its at 90 degrees relative.
OK Should be easy!
If you aim the end of a ferrite loop antenna pointing at
90 degrees (east/west) you are NULLING that station. Its
still at 90 degrees relative, it did not move, it is
stationary! GOT IT!

The best way to get a bearing with the quantum loop is to
find the "null" (minimum signal) because it is just a few
degrees wide! Can't get any easier then that. This

For the past two nights am hearing someone on 1500khz with
very noisy sidebands. The noise sounds like a mix of
teletype signals and a popcorn popper. Same thing heard
on USB and LSB. It nulls roughly N/S. KSTP is in weakly

Since early this summer WYLL 1160khz night xmtr has been
putting out distorted splatter. Most noticeable is on
940, and between 1020 and 1040. And this is heard at
home, from 10 miles away. It is much worse up close to

visited Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. I had the privelage to
visit that Armed Forces Radio station on the base and was
given a guided tour. And yes, I did log them but it
was within about 50 miles or so of the base. If

When CBE 1550khz Windsor, Ont., went silent a few years
ago I started looking for a photo I took of their XMTR
site in 1970.
I finally found the old photo.
If anyone is interested in getting a copy just

About a week ago Todd in Minnesota mentioned WZAM 970
Marquett/Ispheming, Michigan, is probably on day power at
night. They have been noted here every night the past
week.
If anyone needs the U P of Michigan now
is your chance. There are frequent "ESPN U P" slogans
throughout the hour and weat
Hopefully this new 640khz station near Peotone will be
directional to protect WOI to the west. This might give
me some breathing room. And, hope xmtr site would be on
east side of Peotone and not on the west - close to
Joliet!
Years ago nearby Aurora/Sandwich on
930khz was occupied, then 750k
Today in the mail received KCKM 1330khz QSL card,
bumper
sticker and business card from Bob Souza,
Owner and CE.

At 9:42pm Central time I did a loop check on WMVP 1000khz.
They are where they should be, slightly east of north
indicating they are xmting from Downers Grove, IL, their
normal site and not from WLS tower which is almost due
east.
What if they are just running

Nothing back yet from WFNY for reception

I do recall back in the late 1950's or early 1960's when
WLS would do the Conelrad test on 640kcs.
In
the mid-1960's former IRCA member Ed Marr and I had the
privilege of visiting the WLS Xmtr site. The site was
less than three miles from my home back then.
One of the site engineers on duty
There is an odd looking antenna visible from I-294
expressway on north east side of O'Hare Air Port near
Chicago.
This antenna is located on top of a
cluster of buildings on west side of expressway. It
resembles the ribs of an upside down umbrella
approximately 20 or 30 feet in diameter.
