Not only a strong carrier tonight, but even audio! Not in English,
but good enough at times that a native speaker would definitely be able
to pick out words from the talk by a man and a woman. Best level since
that magical day last August, when it was good enough for me to confirm it.

carrier this evening 0510UT, stronger than it has been for awhile,
but still strictly of interest to the propagation buff.Usual

readable "welcome to the Voice of America" appeared.

The Benin carrier is in again tonight. Not overly strong, but quite
steady. What is more unusual is that I noted two other (even wispier)
carriers on 1206 and 1548.

Wellbrook loop and slightly better on the 60 deg AF beverage. Almost

I'm watching 1566 this evening, having begun about 0410 UTC.
Using Jaguar's "Tractor" magnified spectrum timeline (like Zoom tool in
Perseus but with an extended time history), I'm seeing a blurred trace at
about 1565.995 k
It was really only "visible" tonight in the Spectran display,
Walt. Not particularly smeared, but hardly there either...

but tonight I'm hearing others, which is unusual. 1296 is quite strong,

This evening around 0500UT, 1566 had possibly strongest carrier heard
yet in Victoria. Not quite audio, but strong enough to make one
think about the possibility of hearing TWR Benin. The carrier
itself was spread out over a 2Hz spread around 1566, so not an easy
journey through the polar re
The reliable carrier from Benin on 1566 is in tonight, which isn't
that unusual, but it's been joined by others, which is. 1584 and 1413
are about even in strength with 1566 at 0425, with 1314 and 1305 a step
lower. None are threatening audio, but interesting to see carriers
beyond 1566.
Just a faint carrier on 1566.000 tonight in Victoria , at 0505UT, with not very
much Doppler smearing.
Interestingly, I was up on Cortes Island again this past weekend, and a 50'
circumference ALA100 was able to hear the carrier there, so I tried a 1000'
Beverage, not so much on the ground, as
Barely audible het on 1566 this evening around 0530UT, with a smeared carrier
visible in Spectran (this signal never seems to be a solid trace).
Also there was a visible but not audible carrier on 783, but nothing more.

Sat on 1566 HLAZ again this morning; it faded up at 1530 utc and was a
poor/weak signal until 1546 when strong IBOC splatter severely reduced
intelligibility. HLAZ still there, just hard to hear now. Little else other
than MW hets; LWBC also poor.

I'm seeing a weak carrier at 0446 on 1566.000, as near as I can tell.
It's very irregular, poking up out of the noise like a prairie dog, then
diving back down. about 10 db above the noise at best.

Noted in Puyallup at 0510 UTC with a much better signal than last night,
and right at 1566., after resetting calibration in Jaguar.
Antenna used is a Wellbrook ALA1530S+.

Well, it's 0525UT, and the 1566 carrier is pretty much inaudible, a
few blips of signal left in the Spectran display, and that's
it. But a few minutes before, quite a definite carrier on the channel.

Zilch now at 06:10, so not surprising. I measured exactly 1566.000 on the

1566 isn't at its best tonight, but a definitely audible carrier just

traces that 738 is delivering at 0455UT. No "smearing" on the 738

Interestingly, I had zero sign of a Benin trace on 1566 tonight... nada! I
see that my pals Nick and Walt were noticing it though.

A quick sweep here 0416-0419 showed 1584 1521 1485trace 1422 1296 567trace
and I do see the 1125 pair now too. So yes very similar.

Only 1566 in Victoria by 0445UT, and wispy at that.
1296 sounds interesting... sunrise in Sudan is quite early though...

Just after 0500UT, 1566 was delivering a fair carrier to
Victoriaand there was even an audible carrier on 936kHz,
about 7 Hertz lowand Agadir, Morocco is listed as 6.5Hz low as of
February 2018. Both carriers were quite "messy" spread out over
more than 1 Hertz.
