With the Kenwood TS-930 and 80M inverted-L the signal was anywhere between S0
and S3. With the Icom R-75 and Ratzlaff active whip, there was still QSB, but
the signal was always audible and peaking at S5. Wow, dramatic jump at 0602
just as I'm typing typing this. Kick in the supercharger? Goo
Nick,
At 0616 it is coming in very nicely. Some fades, but pretty stable off
SW EWE. A bit better than the NW/NE EWE. The SW EWE in longer though.

I'm surprised the difference is so small Brian(hi) CFAX does have a
pretty nice antenna array and radial field I understand, so p

Hi Nick,
I monitored 1998.5 for your first period of transmission and didn't notice
ANY trace of your beacon on Perseus until very late, at about 0135. Then I
heard the CW signal, and the blip from the carrier began to appear on the
display. The signal was really threshold, though.

Nick,
I just got home a bit ago, but I will try after 0550 again. Thanks. 40
watts should make it. After all I do have a 5 watt pirate on 1630 from
Vancouver from 25 years ago, plus a couple 10 watt TIS stations from
Bellingham on 1610.

I will run the 160 meter amateur radio beacon this evening, 21 October our time
(22 Oct UTC). I plan two segments, one starting before and running past local
sunset from 0105UT to 0135UT, and one from 0550 to 0615UT.
This will be on 1998.
Finally got 100% copy on several ID's at 0130 UTC. Not consistent however. S2.

Hi Nick,
Your beacon is doing well here tonight. With conditions as they
are it should get much further I would imagine.

Although it's a 100 watt transceiver, the antenna is not optimum (a 14m
inductively loaded sloper), so I believe I'm getting about 40 watts out to it.
