Thanks to Richard for his TP-DX report from Oklahoma. It was a pretty good morning here for Chinese stations, with both 738-BEL2 and 1044-CRI managing audio on the "Science Fiction PL-380" model during a generous sunrise enhancement. Other Chinese stations on 936, 1035 and 1323 reached threshold levels at times, but couldn't quite stick around for more than a few seconds each. My session started at 1300 with the usual big guns on 594, 693, 747, 774, 972 and 1566 already in and out with fair audio, along with 603-HLSA and 1575-VOA at similar levels. There were some promising Chinese carriers on 936 and 1035 at my 1300 start time, with both stations managing threshold audio for brief periods between 1300 and 1330 (but not strong enough for positive language identification). At 1335 the Japanese service from 1044-CRI broke into clear audio with male and female speech, easily the best peak it has ever had on these hot-rodded portables. Shortly thereafter 738-BEL2 (with the usual hyped-up male announcer) faded in with its first pop music peak at 1337, to be followed by a slightly stronger peak at 1347 shortly before the band folded here. The 1035-CNR1 synchros had a pretty strong carrier for most of sunrise enhancement but only managed ghostly echoes on peaks, while 936 seemed stuck in the twilight zone between readability and noise. During sunrise enhancement almost all of the NHK big guns were potent indeed but most of the attention here was on the unusual Chinese stations. Both 738-BEL2 and 1044-CRI had pretty decent signals at times, considering the 3" x 4" antenna of the stand-alone FSL PL-380 model. As such, the session was another total blast (despite the weaker Chinese stations that couldn't quite seal the deal). 738 BEL2 Penghu, Taiwan Chinese pop music with fair peaks hosted by the usual hyped-up male announcer at 1347 https://app.box.com/s/swy8qr7mot5n0hox0so2hubn0amr2ooq 1044 CRI Jiangsu, China Male and female Japanese speech and Chinese music during Japanese service at 1336 https://app.box.com/s/wa35aqbqhm63eel5w42kptvgmtnpiqwc 73 and Good DX, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) Stand-alone 3" FSL Tecsun PL-380 Ultralight _______________________________________________ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca
