On the high end of the scale, I recommend the Sony PCM-D50 which I've
used for a few years. It supports both .wav and MP3 and the 4GB
internal memory appears to be quite sufficient for normal use.

has a line input, too. I've been using it mainly to copy old tapes onto
MP3, but it could also be used for DX recordings. It's kind of pricey,
