The screw that comes with the ebay knobs and shafts is not small enough
diameter. A smaller diameter screw with matching pitch would work with the
knobs and shafts from ebay.

I got to think of your neuropathy issues and use of the 59. The 39 is a
better choice, but the 59 can be modified several ways to make it tune
easier.

This is Gary DeBock, the original SRF-59 reviewer. About 10% of the
SRF-59 factory units have a tuning capacitor that is relatively tough to tune,
presumably because of unusual friction in the tuner assembly. The Chinese
factories put varying amounts of grease on the tune

Is there a way to kind of "loosen" the dialing wheel on the radio so that it
turns easier? I have serious neuropathy problems with my fingers and a looser
wheel would make life much easier for me.
