Thank you for sending me your review of the ICF-EX5.
While it certainly is an impressive receiver, it just
does not fill any of the "holes" in my collection of
equipment.
I obtained my ham license almost two years ago, and
have an HF rig, a 2 meter handheld, but still no
VHF/UHF for home

Nick is absolutely right that the ICF-EX5 has a spurious reception
issue, which is not a major problem here in the moderate-RF environment of
Puyallup, WA, but may be for your own location.

I presume you are referring to the Sony ICF-EX5 portable receiver,
which was reviewed in the April issue of DXM, and also the April-May issue of
MWN. I was the author of that review (with extensive help from Nick
Hall-Patch), and the receiver sells for about $160 from Audio
I believe it is the ICF-EX5.

There was a small battery powered, analog tuned rx that was unusually
sensitive, for sale in the Japanese mkt, and limited to 1600 kc up top. Is
that the one you are curious about?

British Columbia on my 2010 last night with a whopper signal. No special
antennas, no special filters, just lying in bed with the headphones on. Some of
