Location is about 50 miles dues east of Winnipeg so still pretty much
in the middle of NA. We weren't expecting a lot because the area had
been struck by high winds a couple of times in the summer and we
hadn't been able to do any antenna repairs before yesterday and there
is only so much

Hi Pete,
Level 5 carrier is How come there not putting any audio through. This is
from the chart that John Bryant sent me. I must have listened for 20 minutes
on the channel. No threshold audio either (level 6). I can't recall hearing
any TA carriers on this before. 1215 the main channel
Checked the 9 hz splits and heard a few carriers. The strongest being 1386
with a level 5 carrier. Time listened 0355-0438 ut. Aimed the Ewe in the NE
direction. With the A K indices at 0, thought I give it a try.

Dennis,
Just out of curiosity, depending on your meter of course, it seems to
me that a level 5 carrier would be significant enough to produce
audio. Were you able to hear anything?

I noted the same thing here. Things started out well, but as Walt said
things fell apart somewhere along the line. All I'm hearing now in the
way of carriers are weak ones on 1134, 1215, and 1017 (which could well
be Tonga rather than a TA).

1215 continues to be up and down w/audio bits at 0529, roughly
parallel to the Virgin R. web stream, which is delayed of course.
Had man talking briefly on 1512, possibly Belgium, and strong
carriers (possibly audio grumbles in the splash) on 567 and 1089
Other carriers, mostly much fainter,

getting 1134 Croatia, 909 UK?, hets on 1377, 945, and various others, noted

The only audio on longwave here is the local electrical noise, though

Bill,
I was told some twenty years ago that European broadcasters
hold their modulation to about 80% peaks, and don't use the
supermodulation

I guess I'd qualify that with strong carriers without audio, Bill,
