Thanks to folks who alerted us to WBZ IBOC being off! I am presently
hearing what sounds like a network echo for R. Reloj on 1020. Bruce Conti's
site and WRTH list only one Reloj on channel. Might be multipath of course.
Bit of the "wobbler" effect too.
This is my second logging on 1020 since WBZ

At 0835 EST they are not running IBOC. I can hear stations on 1020 and 1040
in AM mode using the 8 khz filter and no interference from 1030. Jim, 85
miles west of WBZ.

WBZ-1030 has no IBOC tonight, which is quite unusual. It might indicate
they're on their backup transmitter... they seem a little weaker than
usual, but it's hard to say for sure. Folks in the northeast might want
to pay some attention to 1020 and 1040 tonight...

WBZ has no IBOC this evening, which is very unusual in itself, but they are
also weaker than usual, and their carrier is on 1029.999 instead of the usual
dead-on 1030. This all leads me to believe that they might be using their
backup transmitter...

The modulation looks perfectly symmetrical on the SDR-14 display. USB/LSB

I think WBZ runs or at least can run AM Stereo on the backup.

Still on the backup rig tonight, but they've drifted down a bit, to

Just out of curiosity I wonder if WBZ runs Power-Side on the backup
transmitter? I know a lot of stations that had Power-Side before IBOC
came along kept it on their backup rigs (KPOF/910 for example). Perh

WBZ-1030 does seem to have the IBOC off this evening. 1040 is completely in
the clear. The audio on WBZ still seems to be limited to the 5KHz bandwidth
which is a symptom of a transmitter set for IBOC. I wonder if there was
some settlement with WYSL-1040? I certainly hope there was, though it's

Dont count on it staying that way for long. if they're not running IBOC,
they're on their 10KW backup transmitter most likely.. that backup can also
do AM Stereo too.

Followup on this.. Still off right now. I had noticed the audio was still
at the 5KHz limit at first, but now it's at the full 10KHz range and sounds
quite good. So, either they are on a backup transmitter (probable) or
they've decided to drop IBOC and go back to good sounding audio again

I've seen this quiet. 1020 is audible with two mixed stations. Probably CT

I'll make a call. The former CE of one of my clients now works for WBZ. I
wouldn't mind an hour less of hiss in the evening.
