WKAL 1450 DX Test was logged here in Central Alabama! At first, I
thought my ears were playing tricks on me, but I reviewed the
recording--and there it was at 04:01 UTC. Slow CW and a partial voice ID
in the first five minutes after TOH! My first GY from that far North!

Listened the second night at 0430 and 0500 UTC. Nothing at the BOH but
continual code mostly punching through the din at 0500 UTC.
Thanks to all involved.

WKAL-1450 test made it here to Bowie, Maryland, C-Crane radio, 425 miles from
Rome, NY. In the mud generally but did occasionally peak a bit, only
the code made it through, heard an "NY" very clearly on one stretch, heard
1:01-1:03 and then 1:33-1:37 AM, EST, unid. sports station and station

Not heard here at the 0100 ELT test, but was heard twice during the evening, at
2302 ELT and 0001 ELT. Both receptions were faint, as you might imagine, but
the 2302 was the slightly stronger of the two. Thank goodness for Morse Code,
because it's the ONLY way I would have ever heard WKAL.
Nada 10:30 to 10:35, but weak code aplenty from 11:02 to 11:05.
Eighth most distant graveyarder here, and bumps CHUC as farthest 1450.
My only other New York graveyarder was WJTN-1240 Jamestown (about as close to
here as you can get and still be in NY), a one-time only log from March of 1973.
I heard weak code beginning at 10:02pm EST, lasting for a little over a minute
before stopping or fading away. WKAL, maybe? Checking future ToH's and BoH's
before claiming anything.

The WKAL test started on schedule at 2200 EST, with a continuously
repeated Morse code sequence at around 10 wpm. It has ended now, and
presumably will resume at 2230 EST for 5 minutes, and at half hour
intervals thereafter.

WKAL-1450 heard briefly on DX Test with fair signal -0004 with low-pitched
Morse code IDs that were more involved than just call letters. Faded under one
of the Maine stations, either WRKD or WKTQ, which was mentioning Bangor and
Lewiston, and which itself faded soon after.

No nothing!!! Just a lot of QRN from the rain.
Just a waist of time. But all is not lost. At 0200 EWT, I do get to hear
KMOX-1120 and their presention of Edger Bergan and Charley McCarthy show
from 1944 with their guest of Orsen Wells. Should be a great show!

Morse Code IDs heard in West Michigan at 0403 UTC at the 1 kHz pitch
tone, best with the Perseus tuned to 1451 kHz and engaging the very
narrow CW filter. No code heard at the advertised 400 kHz pitch tone,
but I wouldn't expect it on a graveyard channel - just too much white
noise. Anyway this c
WKAL-1450 Rome, NY DX test punched through gaveyard jumble with "WKAL" code
IDs (.-- -.- .- .-..) and other code (likely "1450" and "Rome") at 0001,
0009 and 0014 ET.
WENI Corning, NY also noted 0006 with mention of "on 1230 and 1450 WENY"
(they're // WENY-1230 Elmira, NY).

VERY, VERY tentative Morse Code heard here at 00:28 ELT. I have the R-5000
tuned to 1450, the CW button is on, and the volume is cranked to the max. Will
have to try again at the top of the hour to get something more definitive.
