(s.t.), the Creator and Ruler of the Universe looks upon the Niyyah behind every deed. For example, if
you do something to get reward in this world only, you can’t get any
reward in Akhirah (the world
hereafter). This is the teaching of Islam, and every Muslim knows it well. In
practice, however, we are doing the opposite. At the ISNA convention, all the major Muslim organizations and Islamic
relief organizations conducted a meeting and announced the intention to collect
and donate $10 million for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. It was historic in
the sense that American Muslims were never able to collect even $1millon
dollars in any relief help including the recent Tsunami that hit mostly Muslim
population. It was incredible, and all praise goes to Allah and to the efforts
of Muslim organizations and American Muslims in helping the Katrina victims who
were mostly poor and oppressed colored minorities. However, what was the Niyyah (intention)?:
“It will help in recovering from the bad images of
Muslims.” “People will see through the media that Muslims are compassionate
and human-loving people.” “It is the best occasion for Muslims to build public
relations.” I heard and read such “intentions” from the spokespersons
of Muslims and Islamic relief organizations without any exceptions. We saw the
press conferences, photo sessions, and all the “efforts” to get the
maximum results of their “Niyyah.”
I was looking and searching even for one Islamic leader, one Muslim, one
believer in this part of the world to give a statement like these: “This is the best occasion to get the reward from Allah.” “Allah provided us an opportunity to ask forgiveness by helping
and reaching out to the victims of Katrina.” “It is the test of every one of us given the opportunity of
helping the victims of Katrina, as a matter of fact helping ourselves, to save
ourselves from these disasters.” “If you want to save yourself from future hurricanes, storms, and
earthquakes, help the victims.” However, my ears didn’t hear any statement like this; my eyes
didn’t read any statement like this. I can say that even after spending
$10 million, by giving time, and volunteering services, we were not able to
seek shelter under the shadow of Allah because it was not our “Niyyah.” Yes! Of course! We can change the Niyyah
now. Allah responds and forgives. Do you think that Muslim organizations even got those
“rewards” for which they were working? Did American mainstream
media start portraying Muslims as “good guys? Did they even recognize and
realize our efforts in helping the Katrina victims. My answer is hundred times
“No.” Muslims even forgot or didn’t find the courage to tell the nation
the reason behind hurricanes, storms, and earthquakes. Yes, there is a
scientific reason. This world is created by Allah on the theory of cause and
effect. But who made these “scientific reasons”? Who translates the
cause into the effect?” Allah can tolerate Shirk
(worshiping more than one God) for a while, but Allah doesn’t tolerate
oppression and injustices to His people. Killing one innocent person is like a
killing of whole humanity. And the prayer of oppressed persons hits the sky and
brings disasters. A Pakistani detainee of Any person who has faith and read any of the books from the God can
understand what I mean and what the message of the Pakistani ex-detainee is. A
Christian who has read any of the editions of Bible, a Jew who has read the
Talmud or Torah, or a Hindu who has read their “Vedas” and
“Upanishads” knows that when oppressed people ask for the help of
God and destruction of the oppressors, God responds. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, “Help your brothers whether they are
oppressed or the oppressor.” The companions of the Prophet asked, “Ya! Rasul Allah (O! Prophet
of Allah), we know how to help our oppressed brothers, but we don’t
understand the helping of “oppressors.” The Prophet of Allah (peace be unto him) said that helping the
oppressor meant to stop their hands from the oppression. This hadith (saying of prophet Muhammad, pbuh)
clearly gives the direction to American Muslims how they can and should help
out Helping Helping Helping Helping Helping “Whosoever killed an innocent human being, it shall be as if he
had killed all mankind,” The meaning of translation of Al-Qur’an
relating to illegal killing: How can you save yourself from killing of all human beings? American Muslims are not telling the truth to I can say without hesitation that if you are not telling the truth to Jawed

[al-Bukhaaree, Muslim] The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also said, "Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all."
