The Muslim Council of Sri Lanka (MCSL) has declared that no Muslim
should participate as a representative of the Government delegation at
any future talks between the Sri Lankan Government and the LTTE.

A resolution in this regard was adopted recently at a symposium held
in Addalachchenai attended by more than 240 Trustees and Theologians
of Mosques, heads of organisations, intellectuals, politicians, youth
leaders and other prominent personalities from the Eastern Province.

"In the absence of a separate independent Muslim delegation
consensually nominated by the Muslims themselves being allowed to
participate at any future talks between the Government and LTTE, no
Muslim should participate in any future talks as a representative of
the government," it was resolved.

The Muslim Council represents the Muslim Civil society with a network
of over 58 of the largest and most influential National organizations
of Muslims spread across Sri Lanka. The symposium held at the Lloyds
Hotel in Addalachchenai also adopted three other resolutions. It was
emphasised that all Muslim Parliamentarians irrespective of the
political party they represent should work together shedding their
political differences and arrive at a common and united stand
vis--vis the solution to the ethnic conflict that would safeguard the
interests of the Muslims.

It was also resolved to reiterate the interests, fears, concerns and
aspirations of the Muslims of Sri Lanka particularly the Muslims of
North and East, that could only be represented by a separate
independent Muslim delegation consensually nominated by the Muslims
themselves and thus call upon the Government of Sri Lanka, LTTE and
Co-chairs to the Peace Talks to take steps that would ensure effective
participation of the independent Muslim delegation, in all future talks.

The fourth resolution was that Muslim officers with executive powers
should be appointed to look into the welfare of Muslims in the
North-East Provincial Council.

{Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.} (Holy Quran-16:125)

{And who is better in speech than he who [says: "My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness)," and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: "I am one of the Muslims."} (Holy Quran-41:33)

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "By Allah, if Allah guides one person by you, it is better for you than the best types of camels." [al-Bukhaaree, Muslim]

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)  also said, "Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all." [Muslim, Ahmad, Aboo Daawood, an-Nasaa'ee, at-Tirmidhee, Ibn Maajah]
