Shabir Ally* Synopsis : Jesus loved by many but understood by a few. The two largest faiths Islam & Christianity have it as an article of faith to believe in Jesus but their understanding of who he was and what he preached is so vastly different. On this platform a dialogue will take place by representatives of both faiths who are well versed in each other's religion. Both representatives will articulate their understanding of who Jesus really was, the communalities between the two faiths and where they differ. The audience is invited to attend and partake in this discussion of mutual respect, theological referencing and intellectual reasoning. The audience will be invited to ask questions or cross examine both representatives on their understanding of who Jesus really was and what he really preached. * The Bishop of Coventry, the Right Reverend Colin Bennetts, appointed Canon Dr Christopher Lamb as Rector of Warmington with Shotteswell and Radway with Ratley in South Warwickshire. Dr Lamb (59) currently holds a national position as Secretary for Interfaith Relations, both for the Church of England and the Council of Churches for Britain and Ireland (CCBI). He has, however, been living in inner-city Coventry ever since his previous appointment in 1987 as Community Relations Adviser to the Diocese of Coventry, a post he held until 1992 when he was also made a Canon Theologian of Coventry Cathedral. Christopher Lamb is acknowledged to be one of the leading experts in the country on inter-faith matters, and a succession of books - sometimes co-authored with Roger Hooker or Kenneth Cracknell - has followed his authoritative doctoral assessment of the pioneering work of Bishop Kenneth Cragg in this field, "The Call to Retrieval". His interest in other faiths, particularly Islam, derives from the six years he spent in Pakistan. He went on to train missionaries at Crowther Hall in Selly Oak, Birmingham, before serving eight years as adviser to two missionary societies in an imaginative project under the chairmanship of Bishop Stephen Neill. Christopher's hobbies include calligraphy, Indian cooking and liturgical dance. He is married to Tina, who has acquired a reputation as a leader of Retreats and is a Tutor on the West Midlands Theological Course. They have two grown-up daughters. People of any faith or no faith are welcome to attend. The event is open to both males and females. The venue has disability access.
