Stop Israeli Occupation and Agression!
Stop US funding to Israel!
Atrocities on Lebanon are growing more violent and potent. The concerned North Carolinians are voicing for Israel to immobilize its military assaults on Lebanon and Palestine. Beirut’s airport runways, the national highway to Syria, power facilities, bridges and other targets have been bombed making daily living impossible for civilians.
For ten days Israel has relentlessly bombed and destroyed Lebanon’s survival infrastructure making it hard for the civilians to find food and shelter. Israel is basing their attack on the two captured soldiers but Lebanon has repeatedly called for swapping of soldiers this excuse is no longer accepted. The United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, repeatedly advocated proposals to end the fighting but the US refuses to communicate. Mr. Annan’s plans are to settle UN peacekeeping force around Lebanon’s border as well as to release the captured soldiers. Obviously, peace is not the goal of Israel or United States. UN estimates that the number of people who are affected in Lebanon is doubling to 1 million.
Over 115 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli’s during the Gaza offensive. Thousands of Lebanese are fleeing the port city of Tyre due to the increased air strikes by the Israeli’s. According to The Sydney Morning Herald news “Israeli Defense Force told all residents of south Lebanon to go north of the Litani River ‘for their safety‘.” “The threat came as Israeli aircraft circled overhead, and followed days of heavy shelling and bombing in the area, which have killed hundreds of civilians, many of them fleeing similar warnings issued by the Israeli army...”
If the following actions seem cruel and unjust to the readers then we urge you to support our opinions by writing to congressmen and senators and urge them to stop supporting Israel in their act of violence toward the Middle East.
On Monday, July 23, from 8:30 - 10:00 pm we will hold a vigil protest, to oppose Israel’s violence against Lebanon and Palestine on the corner of Eugene and Market St. in downtown, Greensboro, NC. (Across from federal building.)
