As some of you may have seen in the
advertisements....channel 4 is planning on airing a programme
entitiled "What muslims want?". This documentary
interviews muslims with very extreme views and, as the title
suggests, has lumped us all into one group and is bound to fuel
further hatred against muslims.
I feel its important we phone/write to
channel 4 and try and stop this programme being aired (it has been
done before). The Sun newspaper and BNP launched a campaign against
the Islamic Alton Towers event and succeeded in forcing Alton Towers
to cancel the event, we shouldn't sit back and watch
again.

This is a
complaint against the "Dispatches" programme to be shown
on Monday 7th Aug 2006 titled "What Muslims
Want".
Was the
producer out of his/her mind when conjuring up the title
of this programme. Does he/she think that the views
expresses by the minority/psychos interviewed and quoted
in the documentary apply to all Muslims as suggested by the
title "What Muslims want" ?
I am very
very disappointed and angry that a respectable and usually
unbiased channel such as Channel 4 would allow such a programme
to be shown, let alone so grossly mis-titled. The programme
should be cancelled IMMEDIATELY as its consequence will
be to fuel racial tension and prejudice amongst
communities due the misrepresentation of the majority
Muslims in this country. The consequences of such a programme being
shown amidst the already tense Muslim-non
Muslim community relationships is gross negligence on
Channel 4 and "Dispatches" part and will lead to further
demonisation and isolation of a community whos views are being
incorrectly portrayed by this Dispatches programme claiming
to represent them. Of whom and where were the surveys and
questions asked and how were they thought to represent the views of
Muslims ?? If I were to film a documentary of anti-semitic
nazi followers and title the documentary "What Germans think"
would that be a fair representation of German people.......I could
give many more examples but I think an educated person will see the
point im making and the danger of such reckless misrepresentation of a
religion and community without considering and weighing up the
consequences.
I hope you
see sense and action this complaint by cancelling the programme
immediately. I shall also be contacting OFFCOM to voice my disgust and
disappointment in the plan to air this programme.
