Salam,

Tahajjud is eleven Rak'at. That is a NAFILAH that can be recited all the year round around Midnight.

TRAWEEH is 20 Rakat (some say 8 Raka't) that is recited only in the 30 days of Ramadhan and it is done after Isha prayers.

After doing the TARAWEEH, you can do the TAHJJUD additionally.

Why are you trying to confuse the issue?

The word TARAWEEH is neither mentioned in the holy Qur'an nor in any of the reports preserved in SAHEEH of Bukhari or the SAHEEH of MUslim, even though those reports point to the TARAWEEH prayers.

All you have to do is to walk into any mosque and see what is going on.

The SAudi Alim named Shaikh Atiyya Salim has written a book in which he has traced the 1400 year long history of Salat Taraweeh. The book is written in Arabic.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Syed-Mohsin Naquvi

Please dont reply if u dont have a authentic answer else you will be a liar and every liar will be put in hell. this is quote of a quran.

As far as tahajjud and taraweeh is concern both are same with different names
as by hadees of Ayesha raziallah anhu she says Prophet SAWS use to pray 11 rakat prayer in ramzan and  gayer ramzan ( that is rest of months)  if u want to see this hadees u can view in many hadees book specially Shahi bukhari and Shahi muslim or ask any authentic scholar who can tell about this hadees.

Rest there are many hadees from sahaba that this taraweeh has been prayed by alone and by jamat by our prophet SAWS.

If any one says it is instituted by second khalifa the he/she is wrong they must correct themselves in light of Quran and Hadees.

Jazakallah khair

Tahjjud is mentioned in the Quran.

It is additional prayers (NAWAFIL) that can be done in the middle of the night and upto the FAJR time all the year round.

TARAWEEH is special prayers as I have written below in which the whole Qur'an is recited in 30 dyas and it is done only in the moth of Ramadhan. It is done about 30 minutes after the Isha prayers.

TARAWEEH is not mentioned in the Qur'an. It was instituted by the second Khalifa Umar bin Khattab (Radi-Ullah anhu) during his rule in the 14th year of Hijra.

Thank you.

What are you talking about?

TAraveeh is 8 raka't every evening according to Imam Ahmad bin Hnabal, and twenty Rak'at according to Imam Abu Haneefa.

That eleven rak'at you are talking about is the TAHAJJUD.

Get your facts right.

You are confused yourself and confusing others.

Thank you.

Number of rak’ahs of qiyaam

The number of rak’ahs is eleven, and it is preferable in our opinion not to exceed this number, following the practice of the Messenger of Allaah (Sal) because he never did more than that in his life. ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) was asked about how he prayed in Ramadaan. She said, "The Messenger of Allaah never prayed more than eleven rak’ahs (of qiyaam), whether during Ramadaan or any other time. He would pray four, and don’t ask me how beautiful or how long they were. Then he would pray four, and don’t ask me how beautiful or how long they were. Then he would pray three." (Reported by al-Bukhaari, Muslim and others).

Women can pray qiyaam in congregation

Women can attend the prayers too, as is stated in the hadeeth of Abu Dharr referred to above. Indeed, it is permissible to appoint an imaam just for them, apart from the imaam of the men. It was proven that when ‘Umar (Ral) gathered the people to pray qiyaam, he appointed Ubayy ibn Ka’b to lead the men and Sulaymaan ibn Abi Hathmah to lead the women. ‘Arfajah al-Thaqafi said: " ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib (Ral) used to command the people to pray during the night in Ramadaan, and he would appoint an imaam for the men and an imaam for the women. I was the imaam for the women."

I say: this is fine in my view so long as the mosque is big enough so that they will not disturb one another.

However, is a person is praying qiyaam by himself, he can make it as long as he wishes;

if others agree with the imaam, he may also make it as long as he wishes.

The longer it is, the better,

but a person should not go to extremes and spend the whole night in qiyaam, except on rare occasions, following the example of the Prophet (Sal) who said: "The best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad." If a person is praying as an imaam, he should make it only as long as is easy for the people behind him, because the Prophet (Sal) said: "If any of you leads the people in prayer, let him make it short, because among them are the young and the old, the weak, and those who have pressing needs. But if he is praying alone, let him make it as long as he likes."

Taraweeh Salaat

In this belated day and age, every morn heralds a new fitna that strikes at the very root of Imaan and amal. For the past fourteen hundred years, the Ummah has been performing twenty rakaats of Taraweeh without question. However  “a sect” now claims that Taraweeh is ONLY eight rakaats, which implies that for fourteen hundred years the Ummah had deviated from the Sunnah of Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) and had performed twenty rakaats without any Shari proof.

The Virtue of Taraweeh

Abdullah Bin Ammar (R.A.) states that Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: “The fast and the Quraan will both plead on behalf of the bondsmen who keeps fast in the day and recites or listens attentively to the recitation of the Quraan at night standing in the presence of Allah (in Taraweeh). The fast will  say “O my Lord, I had held him back from food, drink and sexual gratification, accept my intercession for him today and treat him with mercy and forgiveness. The Quraan will say, “ I had held him back from taking rest and sleep at night, O MY lord, accept my intercession for him today and treat him with mercy and forgiveness”. The intercession of both the fast and Quraan will be accepted and he will be treated with exceptional kindness”. (Baihaqi).

Sayyidina Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudree (R.A.) narrates that Sayyidina Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said : “When the first night of Ramadhaan dawns (comes), the doors of the skies are opened, and none of its doors are then closed until the last night of Ramadhaan.

No mu’min servant ( of Allah) performs salaah during its night (any night of Ramadhaan), but Allah will record for him one thousand five hundred hasanah (rewards) for every sajdah that he makes. And Allah will build a home for him in Jannah made out of red ruby, which will have sixty thousand doors, each of its doors having (interlinked to, leading to) a palace made out of gold, ornamented (beautified and decorated) with rubies.

Thus, when he (the mu’min) fasts on the first day of Ramadhaan, all his past sins are pardoned, and seventy thousand malaaika make istighfar for him, daily, from the time of the fajr salaah, until the sun sets.

And for every sajdah that he makes during Ramadhaan, either by day or by night, there will be for him a tree, (in Jannah, so huge that) a person on horseback will ride in its shade for five hundred years.” (Baijaqi. Targheeb)

Samaan (R.A.) reports: “On the last day of Sha`baan the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) addressed us and said: “O people , there comes over you now a great month, a most blessed month in which lies a night more greater in virtue than one thousand months. It is a month in which Allah has made Sunnah the Taraweeh by night. Whosoever intends drawing nearer to Allah by performing any virtuous deed, for him shall be the reward like him who had performed a Fardh in any other time. And whoever performs a Fardh, for him shall be the reward of seventy Fardh in any other time. This is indeed the month of patience, and the reward for true patience is Jannah (paradise). It is the month of sympathy with one’s fellow men. It is the month wherein a true believer’s rizq is increased. Whosoever feeds another who fasted, in order to break the fast (at sunset), for him there shall be forgiveness for his sins and emancipation from the fire of Jahannam (hell), ! and for him shall be the same reward as him (whom he fed) without that person’s reward being decreased in the least…”.

From this hadeeth it is noted that the command for Taraweeh prayers too comes from Allah Himself. All the authorities of the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamm’ah are agreed upon the fact that Taraweeh is Sunnah.

Taraweeh During The Era of Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) and the Sahabah (R.A.)

Ibn Abbass (R.A.) states that during the month of Ramadhaan, Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) performed twenty rakaats (Taraweeh) and thereafter performed the witr salaat. (Baihaqi and Musannaf Ibn Abie Shaiba).

Ubay bin Ka’ab (R.A.) led the Taraweeh prayers and offered 20 rakaats and three rakaats  waajib salaat.

Umar (R.A.) commanded the Imaam to perform twenty rakaats Taraweeh salaat for the congregation.

Views of The Scholars

Imaan Qurtubie (R.A.) states: “ Twenty rakaats Taraweeh and three rakaats witr is the most authentic narration.”

Imaam Nawawie (R.A.) states: “ Taraweeh is a unanimously accepted Sunnah of the Muslims. It is twenty rakaats”.

“ The pandemonium that the Ghair Muqallideen (people who do not follow any Mazhab) had started for the past hundred years was never before…..Similarly from the time of Umar (R.A.) upto the emergence of this sect there was no masjid in the world where eight rakaats of Taraweeh was performed…..”.(Moulana Habib ur Rahmaan Azmi).

A Grave Misconception

The proponents of eight rakaats Taraweeh quote the following hadeeth of Ayesha (R.A.) as stated in Bukhari Shareef. Ayesha (R.A.) was asked about the salaat of Nabi (Sallahu Alayhi Wasallam) . She replied by saying that Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) did not exceed eleven rakaats in Ramadhaan nor in any other month…”

This hadeeth apparently indicates that Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) performed eight rakaats and three rakaats witr. However the word ‘nor in any month’ clearly indicates that this was with reference to Tahajjud salaat and not Taraweeh salaat. The fact that Imaam Bukhari (R.A.) himself has not mentioned this hadeeth under the caption of Taraweeh salaat is clear proof that the salaat in question refers to witr and not Taraweeh salaat.

Hazrat Umar (R.A.) during his khilafate had directed that Taraweeh salaat be performed collectively in the masaajid, lest the practice gradually dissipates from the Ummah. He did not introduce the number of rakaats on his own accord. To believe that the twenty rakaats is an innovation of Umar (R.A.) IS TO UNDERMINE THE INTEGRITY OF Umar (R.A.) and all the Sahabah who were present at that time.!
