PostgreSQL is a great example of this being done on another FOSS project: 
https://www.postgresql.org/download/linux/redhat/. They provide repos and 
packages for all the major architectures/distros.

We need to scope out if this is under the Apache umbrella before anyone 
implements this ticket, however.
