Finally we have solved the problem.
The servers showing this issue had Jboss running on OpenJDK 1.6 for AMD 64
bits.
Changing it to Sun JRE 1.5 (for i386) solved the problem.

Pfff... my previous conclusions are not right after all the customer
production server still gives problems...
