The missing e-mails in the Sent mail folder would not have been marked deleted 
by me. In fact, there are two recent gaps, each gap between one and two months. 
My theory for now is that either:

- There was some crash at the ISP mail server and the file was damaged 
resulting in multiple emails marked as deleted and then synced back to my 
computer.

- I had a crash on my computer which damaged the file which was later synced to 
the ISP mail server.

Will try your suggestions tomorrow.
