He does not need all of the following skills. He is just looking for someone that is strong in at least 2 of the areas to join is specialized team. Able to code data transformations for what's necessary to answer data questions: python, java, c, c++, or any other Solid background with databases/sql: Oracle, Hive, DW appliances (Teradata, Netezza, Greenplum), MySQL, Postgres, etc. Must be proficient in at least one. Experience data wrangling/etl. Experience or interest in clusters: Hadoop, Hadoop streaming, map/reduce, hive, scm, pig, yarn, spark, mllib, etc. OSes: Linux, Unix. HCM domain a plus. Work well independently or in groups. Able to communicate effectively with others. Search engines a plus: solr, etc. *Skills* 1) Database – Oracle or Hive or Teradata – Just someone good at SQL with analytics and reporting not transaction systems. They should be good at Oracle SQL constructs, debug and fix problems. DB SKILLS IN GENERAL NEED TO BE STRONG. 2) Coding – Java, C, Perl, Python (familiar with any one of the coding).
