Just a thought... I've seen stuff like this when I've added an entry
that was somehow ill-formed or had unicode in it. Various settings
*should* be unicode agnostic, but my experience has varied.

thank you for your reply. On the system runs windows 7 64bit.
And as I pointed out, Java is installed and I am able to start Jabref with
"java -ja JabRef.jar" but the executable JabRef.exe is not able to do so.

I tried JabRef 2.9b2 at Win7, 64bit, and it just works :)
