I agree Java seems much faster under Linux that under Win95. By no means would I suggest using Win95 if it could be avoided, but if you *had* to for some reason, there is a compiler (GCC) for Win95/NT. See the Cygnus website at and look for `gnuwin32'. -- Geoffrey S. K

Hi, I would need Java 2D for my diploma thesis, but SUN only makes Java 1.2beta available for their machines and for another system nobody wants to work with :-) Is there an isolated Java 2D available (like Swing and other APIs) or - escpecially a question to Steve Byrne - is it hard to extract
