Hi Dave,
Some fascinating ideas in there. A couple of (non technical, mostly
gameplay) things came to mind:
Are you supporting variable heights for your avatars?
Can a player customise their face appearance and hair colour?
It may be (too?) easy for people to impersonate others by simply changi

Hi!
I'm new in Java 3D, and I've decide to ask some experts about such thing:
1. How to make a cube with a hole?
2. Is it possible to make such interaction: putting into that hole (using
mouse)
a cylinder (but exactly into this hole...)?
Thanks for any answers...

The going in assumtion is that backwards compatibility is preserved.

Hi all!!
I have a problem here. I loaded an obj file but the colors of the object cant
be loaded. When I get ambient ot emmisive color I get the default values.
What is happening? How I get the colors? I am asking all these cause I am
trying to do a radiosity renderer application.
Thank u in advan
Will any effort be made to maintain compatibility with applications
developed with Java3d 1.3 and below? If not compatibility, then can we be
assured that Sun is committed to the Scenegraph API in general and that the
basic node hierarchy and node types will remain intact?

The topic of how Java 3D 1.4 will evolve, and what it will eventually
look like is not simple. Since Java 3D 1.4 is going though the major
specification request process, the look of Java 3D 1.4 going into
the expert group may not look the same once the expert group releases
the specification into
All of the ancillary buffers pose a problem for scene graph API's. Java 3D
makes it even more difficult because it has no application controlled
traversal semantic. Many of the issues with stencil buffers and shadows
that have been brought up are the kinds of things that we hope to address

Our team has been going back and forth on this for a long time. We have a
single skin / morphing system in place now as a place holder, but want to
move to the next level. I would like to get your opinion on this. Our target
hardware is 700 MHz PC and GeforceII GTS as minimum specs.

Oh, is this dickhead back again? Wouldn't know, he's been in my killfile
for a long time.

I wouldn't worry too much about the non-English posts. In fact, if you're

Thanks for you answer Alvaro.
I have found a few loaders for vrml but only cyberVRML97 lets me save my
scene graph to a vrml file. If someone knows more loaders that can save the
scenegraph please lets us know it.
