Hi,
I am using Jaws version 9 with Microsoft Excel 2002 and I am encountering a
strange problem when opening Excel worksheets.
When I open a file either through Windows Explorer or from the open dialog
within Excel, I have the following problem.
I hear two Windows bong sounds, and

Hi,
You can just type jaws8 and press enter when in the run dialog. The usual
way to start any version of Jaws from the run dialog is to type Jaws plus
the version number.

No Denny that didn't do what I wanted.
When you press the insert down and then the next key you press it like you
are holding down the insert key.
So after you press insert ctrl s, all you are holding down is ctrl s.
Does that make since?

Hi, not Denny, but yes it does. Try unchecking use sticky insert,
something like that. I know this can be done through configuration
manager, but can't remember where from the top of my head, but it could
either be in user options or keyboard options, general page. Hope that
helps.

Go to configuration manager, then User Options, then check Insert Mode on.
This appears to be only in the default configuration manager and does not
appear to be in the application configuration options.

Hi,
I don't think it is a message box or any other kind of dialog. If it were, I
thought I would be able to find it by using the Jaws cursor or virtualizing
the window. If I switch to the Jaws cursor or virtualize the window, all I
see is the worksheet itself.

Hi,
I
I don't know what to do about it beyond what you are doing. Be
aware, though, that you absolutely do *not* want to acknowledge the
ok button. It actually interferes with the worksheet if you do.

Hi Ryam,
I usually get this message when Jaws is initialized and when I open
Excel. It also happens when you shutdown Jaws and bring up another
version or the same version.
Basically, just ignore the message and wait until Jaws stop speaking.
I believe that the initializing is caused by
a simple program or a couple should i say are:
1. npop.
2. popcorn.
these are very simple e-mail clientts.
a note about npop, it initially downloads message headers.
you can get popcorn from the jaws users website and when i've got time, i'll
give you the link for npop.

That is certainly a good reminder. For example, if you press the spacebar in

Right. And if you have tutor messages on, JAWS actually tells you to

It's not fully functional because you just disabled a major component. Think
about it by turning part of it off there is no way it could be fully
functional.

HI Ryan,
Speaking strictly from experience, any time I open an Excel sheet, this
message does come up, and I simply wait until Jaws starts telling me the row
and column I am on, at that point, I can simply go through the sheet with
the arrow keys.
In other words, a bit of patience goes a long
